There is a tagged release, 1.16.6, but looks like the release never got published to the Microsoft Store. At the moment of writing, the latest stable version on Microsoft Store is still 1.15.24.

On the other hand, Microsoft decided to adopt Chromium for the future development of Edge. A comment from the Project Manager states that the team is intended to make (future versions of) Edge to support Chrome extensions. I don't know how long will this take to come true.

Once Edge is rebuilt using Chromium and uBlock Origin can be installed directly, I think this project is no longer needed...

You may want to take a look at Nano Adblocker, which is a fork of uBlock Origin with some tweaks.

Go to edge://extensions and enable Allow extensions from other stores (bottom left) and you can install uBlock Origin from the Chrome Web Store. I've been using it for a while and it works just fine.

That's for Edge based on Chromium. For Edge Legacy, there is no such option for installing extentions from Chrome Web Store, because those extensions are not compatible with Edge Legacy.
