Once you know which project you want to contribute in, you go into it's Github Repository find a issue to work on it or create your own issue.
If you have found an issue and it is open write a comment stating that you want to work on it and if the admin assigns you that project You can start contributing.
If you have created an issue same thing happens if the admin assigns you the issue you can work on it

you have to message nobody, its a completely open source platform checkout this site (https://gssoc.girlscript.tech/project), u'll be able to find multiple projects just go through the tech stacks required (i.e, programming languages and the frameworks the project is based on) if U are proficient in those required skills or even have basic knowledge about that tech stack go for it!
