Is PKC a hack

Some people argue that PlexKodiConnect is 'hacky' because it directly accesses and alters the Kodi video and music databases. PKC also enables you to 'circumvent' the Plex Media Server from streaming by enabling Kodi to play a file directly.

The Kodi team dislikes the database approach. They won't support any issues caused by it. That is understandable as PKC could break the Kodi database and you would have to reset it, potentially losing the data that you probably manually entered in Kodi. However, as stated in the ReadMe, PKC assumes that you will manage all your media with Plex. If PKC corrupts your database (which should never happen), you can reset it in the PKC settings and simply resync the Plex data. Your data is not lost as all your data resides on your PMS.

On the other hand, PKC direct play theoretically lets you circumvent the Plex Media Server altogether by letting Kodi directly access your media files. In practice, PKC keeps in contact with your PMS constantly. What's the point if you don't get that "Kodi playstate" synced to the PMS so you can continue watching on another device?
