The biggest new feature in this release is a pipe organ. It includes 14 stops in three divisions. They can be used individually or combined to create more complex sounds. An assortment of combination presets is provided, or you can create your own.

The solo flutes (flute 1 and 2, alto flute, piccolo) get a big upgrade. All of them now have staccato and marcato articulations.

The percussion section receives some much needed attention. Timpani rolls have been looped so you can hold them as long as you want. Noisy samples for triangle and finger cymbals have been cleaned up. Snare drum and triangle rolls have sampled releases to create cleaner cutoffs. "Left hand" and "right hand" hits have been turned into round robins. Separate loud and soft samples have been turned into crossfaded layers. The tuning of the timpani has been improved.

This release contains lots of changes to improve the quality and flexibility of the library.

  • Most instruments now come in two versions that are controlled differently. The "notation" versions use velocity to control the dynamics of all articulations. The "performance" versions use the modulation controller to control the dynamics of long articulations.
  • An alternate solo flute has been added (created by Mattias Westlund).
  • The grand piano has been replaced with a much better one (a modified version of the Splendid Grand Piano from https://github.com/sfzinstruments/SplendidGrandPiano).
  • The chorus sounds much better than before thanks to volume and pitch corrections on all notes.
  • Various other minor changes to improve the sound of individual notes.

This release combines many enhancements created by various people since the original SSO was first released. New features include:

  • Looped versions of all sustain articulations (implemented by Signal Experiments).
  • Looped-decaying versions of all solo instruments (implemented by Signal Experiments).
  • Marcato articulations for most ensemble sections (implemented by Peter Eastman).
  • Staccato violas (implemented by Mattias Westlund).
  • Tremolo violins (implemented by Mattias Westlund).
  • Keyswitched instruments (implemented by Peter Eastman).
  • Lots of minor changes to improve the overall quality of the library: note volumes are more uniform within each instrument, articulation ranges are more consistent, and a few notes that contained stray noises have been fixed (implemented by Peter Eastman).
